The Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine Gyro Compass is the most reliable in the market due to its unique feature to float in supporting fluid inside the gyrosphere container.

Buoyancy Method

This buoyancy method ensures North Stabilisation during power interruptions of up to three minutes. The combined effects of the twin rotors and the liquid damping system virtually eliminate latitude error for increased reliability and safe navigation.

Prevent Heading Errors

The top of the gyrosphere contains an annular damping trough, half filled with a viscous fluid. The fluid damps azimuthal oscillations of the gyroscope system. The oscillation period is tuned to the Schuler period of 84.4 minutes, so that heading errors during horizontal acceleration due to changes in speed and/or direction are prevented, which is unique for gyrocompass systems in the market.
