Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unveiled a new-generation electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS) at the Nor-Shipping maritime technology exhibition in Lillestrøm, Norway.

The new Sperry Marine NAVI-ECDIS system, with its intuitive user interface and uncluttered screen format, is designed to enhance situational awareness for bridge watch officers. The user-friendly software incorporates pop-up windows that can be moved around the screen to maximize viewing area of the chart display. Smart, active labels provide clear status and situation information. Extensive onscreen help menus are provided.

NAVI-ECDIS is a fully compliant system that provides a complete real-time navigation and route planning solution. The standard conning information display presents key navigation data in a clear, concise format. Sperry Marine's innovative target correlation feature permits display of ARPA and AIS targets in a simplified format. The built-in universal chart manager can display a wide range of raster and S-57 vector electronic chart formats. Voyage and alarm data can be recorded for onscreen playback.

The PC-based system is available as a desktop or free-standing console with a high-resolution flat-screen display, and can also be supplied as an electronics kit for installation in a user-provided console. The system's open architecture is designed for easy interfacing with other ship systems and permits seamless future upgrades.

Sperry Marine's new ECDIS meets all applicable International Maritime Organization and International Electrotechnical Commission ECDIS specifications under the Safety of Life at Sea regulations.
