The ABS approval authorizes service engineers from Sperry Marine's nine U.S. service facilities to inspect and certify mandatory radio equipment, including Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems, Automatic Identification Systems, and Ship Security Alert Systems. Sperry Marine is also qualified to provide FCC certifications aboard U.S. flag vessels.

The equipment inspections conducted by Sperry Marine engineers may be relied on by ABS surveyors in making decisions affecting classification or statutory surveys.
