Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) today announced that its Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) training center has been granted a five-year recertification from the U.S. Coast Guard.

The 40-hour ECDIS course is offered at Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine facility in Charlottesville, Va., and includes classroom instruction, individual hands-on training on ECDIS simulator workstations and team training on Sperry Marine’s complete ship-bridge simulator.

The ECDIS training curriculum satisfies the international requirements for training under the 1995 amendments to the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW-95) Code. The course syllabus closely follows the International Maritime Organization Model Course 1.27 for the operational use of ECDIS. The course was originally approved by the Coast Guard in 2001.

Sperry Marine also offers similar STCW-certified ECDIS training courses at its facilities in New Malden, United Kingdom and Hamburg, Germany.
