CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Litton Marine Systems (LMS), a subsidiary of Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC), has introduced a new type-approved basic Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) for the maritime industry.

The new Vision 2100 ECDIS-BE is a stand-alone ECDIS system that has been fully type approved by Det Norske Veritas (DNV Certificate No. A-7762). The basic package includes a marinized Pentium III PC running on Windows NT 4.0 with a 21-inch CRT display, in a standard deck-mounted workstation. Multiple serial data ports accept inputs from the ship's ARPA radars, gyrocompasses, speed logs, GPS/DGPS, echosounder and weather station. Hardware options include a 29-inch CRT, a separate navigation planning station and a console mounting kit, which can be built into the ship's cabinetry.

The Universal Chart Reader in the Vision 2100 ECDIS-BE can display a wide range of electronic charts, including S57, Primar and C-MAP vector charts or British Admiralty ARCS or NOAA raster charts. The system offers extensive functions for chart portfolio creation and management, chart corrections and display of information on charted objects. The system also provides voyage plan creation and monitoring, conning information display of navigation sensor data, trial maneuvering mode, complete record and playback of voyage and navigation data, ARPA target display and printer output of relevant data. Radar video overlay capability is available as an option.

Like all Litton ECDIS products, the Vision 2100 ECDIS-BE is designed to provide a built-in upgrade path through future software releases, and is supported by Litton's worldwide service network.
