CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Litton Marine Systems has introduced a new 18-inch flat-screen Decca BridgeMaster E marine radar for the commercial fishing and workboat markets.

The new radars, along with other Litton Marine Systems products, were featured at the Fishing 2000 exhibition in Glasgow, Scotland.

The new flat-screen radars have been designed specifically for commercial vessels and larger pleasure craft not requiring full IMO type approval and where space and weight are important factors, according to Nolasco DaCunha , Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Service.

The flat-panel display modules are just 4 inches (10 cm) thick. The active-matrix high-resolution 18-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) provides wide viewing angles and a bright clear picture in direct sunshine. At night, the display can be dimmed almost to extinction to avoid glare.

The new thin-screen BridgeMaster E radars are being offered in a "kit" form for easy retrofit. The electronics components can be remotely mounted beneath the console or in an electronics compartment, with only the display console and operator controls visible. The user can choose joystick, trackball or keyboard controls. A serial-data link is used to connect the display and transceiver, reducing cable requirements and installation costs. The display can be desk top, bulkhead, deckhead or console mounted.

In addition to the new 18-inch model, Litton also offers a complete line of fully type-approved flat-panel BridgeMaster E 250 radars, in both kit and console versions.
